A medical board revealed on Sunday that former premier Nawaz Sharif is on the verge of kidney failure and recommended his transfer from Adiala Jail to a hospital as his health is deteriorating, reported a private media outlet.

According to reports, the level of urea nitrogen in Nawaz’s blood had risen to a dangerous level, coupled with excessive sweating and dehydration due to humidity in the prison.

His heartbeat is also irregular, said a medical board which examined the former prime minister on Sunday.

Reportedly, caretaker government, however, said that Nawaz is medically examined in Adiala Jail on a regular basis and his medical tests appear normal.

If physicians, who examine Nawaz, officially recommend his treatment in a hospital, a medical board would be constituted to examine the ex-PM’s health and action would be taken in the light of related recommendations of the board, an official in the government said.

On Saturday, Nawaz’s incarcerated son-in-law  Capt Safdar reportedly fell ill and the paramedical staff was called to assess his condition. He fell ill during a meeting with his legal team, said reports.

According to prison officials, doctors from the District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi were called to check on Safdar. He will not be shifted to a hospital unless doctors advise further medical attention.
