Leghari tribe’s support likely to steer Shehbaz Sharif’s victory in NA-192

DERA GHAZI KHAN: NA-192 (DG Khan-4) consists of rural, mountainous and river areas. This constituency also includes seventeenth ward of Kot Chutha municipal committee. While most of the areas included in this constituency are traditionally influenced by the Leghari tribe, the tribal elders have invited Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to contest the election from this constituency.

As per the details provided by the ECP, total number of registered voters in NA-192 are 295,364 that includes 169,847 male and 128,571 females. There are 657 polling booths for 231 polling stations, 377 of which are reserved for men and 280 for women.

Interestingly, former Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari has become the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari is the first cousin of Leghari tribe chief Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari.

Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari is the son of the former federal minister Sardar Maqsood Khan Leghari. Sardar Maqsood Khan Leghari is a seasoned politician who fully understands the mechanism of local and national politics.

With the introduction of Shehbaz Sharif from the home constituency of Leghari tribe, a public debate has been triggered among locals who are divided into two factions.

The first group will not allow any outsider to compete in the election from this constituency while the second group sees the PML-N president as a guest and intends to honour him with a successful election.

While addressing a corner meeting, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari claimed that Shehbaz Sharif will win with at least a 50,000-vote lead.

Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) candidate Sardar Irfanullah Khosa, Ahmad Bux from Allah O Akbar Tehrik and Syed Munir Hussain from Tehrik Labaik Pakistan (TLP) are also contesting from this constituency. The significant feature of this constituency is that there is no independent candidate here.
