35,000 policemen to perform security duties on polling day

LAHORE: More than 35,000 policemen, 50 DSPs and 200 inspectors under the supervision of 25 SPs will perform duties to maintain law and order besides ensuring a peaceful environment during the general elections in the provincial capital.

The policemen along with personnel of the Pak Army and Rangers will perform security duties at all polling stations in the city whereas polling stations would also be monitored through CCTV cameras and aerial surveillance.

All policemen from the CCPO rank to a constable would remain in the field to protect people and ensure a peaceful environment during polling.

These viewed were expressed by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) BA Nasir while presiding over a meeting regarding security arrangements for general elections at Qila Gujjar Singh on Saturday.

The CCPO directed the officials to take stern action against criminals and said that the police would utilise its all resources to ensure peaceful elections.

He said that no one would be allowed to violate the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), adding that those who would violate the code would be dealt with an iron hand.

DIG Investigation Khurram Ali, DIG Operations Shehzad Akbar, SSP Admin Usman Akram Gondal, SPP Headquarters Atif Nazir and other senior officers were also present.
