LAHORE: Former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal sent a defamation notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and singer Abrarul Haq on Friday.
The notice, filed through Barrister Mujtaba Jamal, states that PTI’s candidate for NA-78 (Narowal II) tried to taint Iqbal’s reputation on a political talk show aired on a private television network.
“Iqbal has served as a public representative four times, has taught at universities and has worked as a management consultant,” reads the notice.
It added that Haq accused Iqbal of corruption along with misuse of authority and acceptance of bribes while granting development contracts.
During a political gathering, the singer also claimed that the former minister gave Narowal’s stadium contract at Rs7 billion.
The defamation notice demanded Haq to retract his statements and tender an unconditional apology within 14 days or the plaintiff will take the matter to the court for relief.
