Sarfraz Shahid’s contributions eulogised

ISLAMABAD: Country’s renowned humourist poet Sarfraz Shahid is blessed with a strong sense of humour and creativity through which he has portrayed the social issues Pakistan faces in the journey to become a global village.

These views were expressed by noted literary personalities during a session titled “Meet a Writer Over a Cup of Tea”, arranged by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) with renowned writer  Sarfraz Shahid as the guest.

Responding to the questions of great literary personalities, including Dr Inamul Haq Javed, Naseem Sehar, Mehboob Zafar, Dr  Nisar Turabi,  Professor Anwar Masood, PAL Director General Dr  Rashid Hameed and many others, Sarfraz Shahid said that he participated in Mushairas in over a dozen countries, including the United States,  Saudi Arabia,  Canada,  Abu Dhabi,  Sharjah and England, etc.

Sarfraz Shahid said that he has highlighted in a humourous way the issues faced by the Pakistani society in its journey of turning into a global village.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Anwar Masood said that Sarfraz Shahid is one of the celebrated humorous poets of Pakistan, who has his own unique mature style, skill and identity.

Sarfraz Shahid is equally popular at home and abroad due to his extraordinary skills to covey harsh messages in a lighter way, he said.

Dr Inamul Haq Javed said that the contribution of Sarfraz Shahid towards the promotion and evolution of humorous poetry in Pakistan cannot be overlooked at all. He has introduced new dimensions of humourous poetry and his works are a great asset for Urdu literature, he added.

PAL DG Dr Rashid Hameed said this was the 32nd programme of the PAL initiative. This programme, he said, has gained huge popularity and appreciation in literary circles.

Sarfraz Shahid is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award, Amir Khusro Award, Pride of Performance and many other awards for his contribution.
