MMA workers protest against police firing near Islamabad camp

ISLAMABAD: A scuffle erupted between workers and leaders of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and police in Islamabad on Wednesday.

As per details, policemen arrived outside a G-10 Sector camp office of the MMA and opened aerial fire. In response, the MMA leaders and workers staged a protest and blocked the main road of the sector.

The police officials tried to forcibly shut down the camp, MMA leader Rao Javed told media.

Later on, the police suspended the official alleged of firing outside the camp. The residents near the electoral camp had complained several times regarding the use of loudspeaker and music, the police clarified, adding that the officials opened fire only for self-defence.

The police claimed that MMA workers provoked the officials who came to address the concerns of the residents. The police also said they will conduct a probe into the matter.
