VIDEO: Sharjeel Memon running election campaign on ‘incomplete dispensary’

KARACHI: Former provincial minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon who is contesting the elections from PS-63 constituency took his campaigning to the next level, despite being in jail on corruption charges worth billions of rupees.

In a recent video that was uploaded on social media shows ‘local residents’ talking about the ‘developments’ done in the province by Memon. The interesting fact to keep in mind here is that as the campaigning is underway, the PPP leader is still detained.

Moreover, the video is focused around an incomplete infrastructure of a dispensary, with little to no ‘development’ visible.

Furthermore, people were not really happy about the video campaign showing the ‘development’. Not only that, they criticised the party and the representatives for their lack of interest in their own constituency, adding that Memon was mostly absent from representing the constituency during his tenure.

From the comment thread, one can say that the ‘development’, rather the lack of it, along with the corruption charges on Memon have played adversely against him.

In 2013, the PS-63, which was previously named PS-50, elected Memon for the first time as he secured over 35,652 votes.

The constituency, however, did not see its elected representative for around half duration of his five-year tenure in the Sindh Assembly.

Memon spent almost two years in self-imposed exile.

Some months after his return to Pakistan, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested him on October 23, 2017, from the Sindh High Court (SHC) premises in Karachi after the SHC rejected his application for the extension of bail. NAB, subsequently, indicted him on February 14, 2018.

For the upcoming polls, as many as 160,241 people, including 85,990 male and 74,251 female voters, are registered in PS-63.
