LAHORE: Two districts of Punjab have retained their positions in the quarterly ranking of districts in the provincial government’s own assessment of different facilities, learning outcomes of government-run schools in the province.
According to a local media report, the quarterly report stated that the top 2 districts of the province include Okara and Bhakkar. The current ranking is for the fourth quarter of 2017-18 calculated between April and May of 2018.
In the last quarter, Jhelum and Vehari recorded the most decrease, while Mianwali and Rahim Yar Khan Districts climbed up the most positions in the rankings respectively.
In a detailed comparison between the third and fourth quarters, Mianwali climbed 25 spots, Rahim Yar Khan 22, Narowal climbed 14 positions, Gujrat 11, Nankana Sahib nine, Hafizabad six, Chiniot, Sheikhupura and Sialkot six, Faisalabad and Khushab five, Lahore four, Khanewal, Pakpattan, and Sargodha climbed three positions and Rajanpur was up one rank. Bhakkar and Okara districts retained their ranks.
The comparison showed that Gujranwala dropped one rank, Lodhran three, Chakwal and Dera Ghazi Khan four positions, Layyah, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh dropped six ranks, Bahawalnagar and Mandi Bahauddin dropped seven positions, Bahawalpur and Kasur dropped eight ranks, Multan downgraded nine positions, Attock, Jhang, and Muzaffargarh were ranked 10 positions below their previous positions, while Vehari and Jhelum fared the worst with a drop in 12 and 13 ranks respectively.
The ranking uses literacy and numeracy indicators based on the percentage of results of English, Math, and Urdu test, student and teacher attendance, student retention, infrastructure and facilities, and monitoring by administrative staff.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme (PMIU) Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PESRP), the education managers of the top five districts will be awarded honorarium based on the result compiled through Performance Evaluation Index (PEI) of the PMIU-PERSP.
