ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Senator Pervaiz Rasheed on Tuesday asked why former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was not presented before the court over the hearing of a corruption reference against him.

He said Nawaz was summoned to appear in court last year during the trial but not now.

“Why is there a difference in the way the hearing is being conducted now,” he inquired and asked the courts to answer such questions.

“Our lawyers have filed appeals,” he said while expressing hope that appeal proceedings will be conducted at the same pace as the trial.

He said neither the previous PML-N government nor any government since independence had conducted such a trial against a politician.

The accountability court hearing the case against Nawaz adjourned proceedings to await decision by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on appeals against the Avenfield reference verdict and requests to transfer the case to another judge.
