NAB judge adjourns Al Azizia reference hearing till IHC’s ruling on Sharifs’ plea

ISLAMABAD: Judge Muhammad Bashir on Tuesday adjourned the Al Azizia corruption reference against convicted former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif until the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) ruling on an appeal filed by the Sharif family.

Nawaz’s counsel had moved the IHC against conducting a jail trial and had entered a plea seeking the suspension of the Avenfield reference verdict.

A two-member bench of the IHC including Justice Moshin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the petitions.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor Afzal Qureshi told Judge Bashir about the petition by the Sharif family which they had entered in the IHC following which the judge adjourned the accountability court hearing until July 18.

Judge Bashir observed, “We have heard that the law ministry has also recommended a jail trial.”

Moreover, while speaking to journalists during an informal conversation outside the court, the judge said that the media would be allowed to cover proceedings of the jail trial.
