PPP demands action against PTI leaders for hurling abuses

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Maula Bux Chandio slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for hurling abuses and using foul language against the opponents, demanding of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against the misconduct.

In a statement on Monday, Chandio said PTI Chairman Imran Khan and former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervez Khattak had polluted politics with their indecent remarks.

“Had Khattak done anything in the past five years, he would have talked about that, and not hurl abuses,” he said, referring to a video showing Khattak hurling abuses against PPP.

Also, criticising ECP, the PPP leader said the election body by not taking action against abusive language during rallies has become partial.

PPP had also earlier blamed the PTI for using derogatory language against their political opponents. In March, PPP leader Khursheed Shah alleged that both PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz engage in defamatory politics.

Last week, a video made rounds on social media in which Khattak compared the supporters of PPP with sons of prostitutes.

‘CARETAKERS’ BIASED APPROACHED’:

The PPP has also stressed the ‘biased’ approach of the caretaker government, condemning the inability of the setup to provide conducive environment for the 2018 elections.

In-charge of the central election cell of the PPP Senator Taj Haider, in a press statement, showed displeasure and disappointment over the attitude of the caretakers’ biased approach shown towards the party and its candidates.

He wondered that instead of doing their prime job of providing a conducive and peaceful environment to the political parties and candidates to conduct their election campaign, the caretaker government was instead sabotaging the electoral process which is clearly evident from their inaction against the perpetrators who have openly attacked electoral rallies and contesting candidates.

The Senator further added that rather than deploying the security apparatus and administrative resources against the terrorists and miscreants, the caretaker setup was focusing on removing the banners and posters of candidates and creating unnecessary impediments and unwarranted bureaucratic problems.

Senator Taj Haider noted that the entire nation has been held hostage by a handful of terrorists and the state was behaving like a mere on-looker which is very unfortunate and quite concerning. He added that the act of withdrawal of security from candidates in general and particularly those who have been struggling and raising their voices for democracy and human rights is equivalent to facilitating the extremists and terrorists. “It seems like a staged act to provide militant support to their ‘favorites’ in their election campaign,” he commented.

He further said they were witnessing the repeat of the 2013 general elections when Taliban had hindered and blocked the electoral campaign of progressive parties. The senator wondered what the hurdle was in providing security to the candidates and their rallies. He questioned as to how much more innocent blood would be spilled before the caretaker setups realise the gravity of this chaotic environment and the trauma that the people of Pakistan have been put into.

He concluded that steps should be taken to ensure free, fair and transparent elections and for the caretakers to conduct their job properly in real essence.
