Naqeebullah’s father loses confidence in ATC judge

KARACHI: Naqeebullah Mehsud’a father on Monday filed a plea to transfer case of the extrajudicial killing of his son by former Malir SSP Rao Anwar after showing no confidence over judge of the anti-terrorism court (ATC).

While hearing the plea against Rao Anwar’s bail at ATC, the complainant expressed dissatisfaction over the judge’s decision saying, “Our pleas have not been heard from the very first day.”

“The judge has not taken any notice of the protocol provided to the accused,” he added.

Moreover, the father also stated that the witnesses in the case were being threatened and further requested the court to transfer the case.

Earlier on July 10, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted bail to former SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Tuesday in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

The former SSP Malir was directed to pay Rs1 million in bail bonds.

The verdict was reserved by the anti-terrorism court on Thursday (July 05).

Earlier, Rao Anwar was granted bail after hearing the arguments in the court. Following that, the ATC judge ruled that Anwar was not present at the crime scene.

The ATC judge stated in the bail order, “I have come to the conclusion that accused Rao Anwar was not present at the scene of the crime and his case has become one of further inquiry.

Anwar was temporarily detained in Multan Lines in Malir cantonment until his lawyers submitted a surety bond worth Rs1 million.

Judging from the call data record (CDR), the judge ruled that the former SSP was not present at the site of the incident when the allegedly ‘staged’ encounter occurred.
