ANP leader Daud Khan escapes assassination bid in Chaman

CHAMAN: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Daud Khan Achakzai narrowly escaped death on Monday morning when armed men shot and injured him in Chaman.

The former senator received two gunshot wounds on his right arm when four unidentified men opened fire at him at a guesthouse he was staying in the Qila Abdullah area. The attackers fled the crime scene leaving the leader injured.

He was shifted to Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital in Quetta seeking medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Furthermore, the site of the incident has been cordoned off and a search operation has started by security personnel.

The armed attack comes a day after the country observed mourning day over recent terrorist attacks on election candidates in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the general elections.

Earlier last week, ANP leader Haroon Bilour and 20 others were killed and nearly three dozens injured in a suicide bomb attack targeting an ANP rally in Peshawar’s Yakatoot area on July 10.

ANP supporters gathered outside the hospital and shouted slogans against the government for its failure to provide security to their leader.

Moreover, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Nawabzada Siraj Raisani was among 130 people killed in a suicide attack on an election rally in the Mastung area. Around 150 people were injured in the tragic incident.

Earlier on the same day, a bomb targeted the convoy of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) candidate and former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.
