KARACHI: One person was killed while eight were injured after a ride derailed at Karachi’s Askari Park near Old Sabzi Mandi area of the metropolis.
According to the media reports, the ride was in motion when it derailed resulting in a fall of riders. Initially, the visitors present at the park attempted to rescue the injured through self-help as the rescue service could not be reached immediately.
The injured persons were shifted to different hospitals where a 16-year-old girl, Kashaf Samad, could not succumb to injuries and passed away. She is said to be a resident of Sharafabad area of Karachi.
Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Additional Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Ahmad said that Kashaf had already expired when she was brought to the hospital.
“We received seven persons brought for treatment at Liaquat National Hospital,” hospital’s Spokesperson Anjum Rizvi said. All have been shifted to the emergency ward, he said.
“At this moment, nothing can be said about the condition of the injured persons,” added the spokesperson.
Taking immediate notice of the incident, Sindh Inspector General (IG) Amjad Javed Saleemi ordered the SSP East to provide emergency rescue services to all those affected at the park.
He also issued directives for the police to ensure the cooperation of park officials so that details of the incident can be properly uncovered.
