Elections in PK-78 postponed after Bilour’s death

ISLAMABAD: The returning officer concerned on Friday terminated the proceedings related to the elections in Peshawar-XIII constituency PK-78 due to the death of Haroon Bashir Bilour in suicide blast.

According to an official of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the returning officer has issued a public notice in this regard in terms of Section 73 of the Elections Act, 2017.

The fresh proceedings will commence after the general election and the schedule for the said constituency will be announced.

He clarified that it will not be necessary for remaining contesting candidates to file fresh nomination papers or make a further deposit under Section 61 of the Act.

Bilour died on late Tuesday night in the suicide attack at a corner meeting of the ANP.

Earlier, it was reported that wife of Haroon Bilour will contest elections from PK-78 constituency. “I and my mother will continue the mission for which my father, Haroon Bilour and grandfather, Bashir Bilour who sacrificed their lives,” Danyal Bilour, son of slain Haroon Bilour, told media persons.
