ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been given the green signal regarding the Ataturk Avenue expansion project by the Environmental Protection Tribunal.

Initially, objections were raised regarding the expansion by the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA).

Earlier in 2017, CDA had been directed by PEPA to halt the project because it required the cutting down of 140 trees.

CDA Spokesperson Malik Saleem said, “Since we have removed all concerns of Pak-EPA, the tribunal has decided in our favour and we will soon restart the project.”

“We planted over 3,000 trees to compensate for the 145 we cut down,” Saleem added.
