Interior ministry orders foolproof security for chief election commissioner

ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has issued orders to provide foolproof security to the chief election commissioner and his family members following the suicide attack on Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour in Peshawar that left him dead.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan had written a letter to Civil Armed Forces in which he had stated that his life was in danger as he was receiving life threats

“My life is in danger as I am receiving life threats since long; threats have increased after Peshawar attack,” he stated. “Police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel should be deployed for my security,” he added.

Earlier, the letter was submitted in Civil Armed Forces and then was carried to the interior ministry by a staff officer, upon which the interior ministry has ordered for adequate measures.

When contacted for the confirmation of the news, an interior ministry spokesperson said that the chief election commissioner was receiving no life threats and the media should refrain from creating hype. The measures were taken in connection with the recent terrorist attacks in Peshawar.

On the other hand, the police conducted snap checking in Election Commission House with the help of sniffer dogs, sources said.

Superintendent Police (SP) City Amir Niazi has been given the responsibility of security, sources said.
