Sharifs’ conviction challenged in LHC

LAHORE: A petition seeking to nullify the sentencing of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar was submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday.

The plea was lodged by the Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice through Advocate AK Dogar.

On July 6, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison and slapped a £8 million fine, while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years with a £2 million fine in the Avenfield properties reference. Safdar was given a one year sentence and shifted to Adiala Jail on July 9.
