ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday announced that they will halt political activities for a day to show solidarity with the Awami National Party (ANP) following Tuesday night’s deadly suicide bombing in Peshawar in which more than at least ANP activists, including its provincial assembly candidate Haroon Bilour, were martyred.
“The entire country is in a state of mourning after the suicide explosion,” said a statement released by PTI.
“We have postponed all electoral activities in KP for July 11,” remarked Fawad Chaudhry.
On the other hand, PPP also postponed its political activities for a day in order to show solidarity with ANP.
The death toll in the Peshawar suicide attack has jumped to 20. Presently, 65 people injured in the suicide attack are seeking treatment at Lady Reading Hospital, authorities confirmed.
The blast occurred in Yaka Toot area of the provincial capital, as Haroon arrived at the stage to address supporters.
A local ANP leader while talking to journalists said that the suicide bomber blew himself up when Bilour entered the compound where the meeting was being held.
CCPO Peshawar Qazi Jameel said that nearly 8 kilograms of TNT explosives were used in the blast.
