PPP writes letter to PEMRA chairman to ensure equal coverage for all parties

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Secretary-General and former chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has asked the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman to ensure non-discriminatory coverage to all parties in the election campaign and press conferences.

Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari in a letter addressed to the PEMRA chairman mentioned a press conference by the senior leadership of PPP and PPPP in Lahore on July 10 at Bilawal House which was not covered live by any private TV channel despite representatives of all private and public media channels being present at the press conference.

The press conference was addressed by Bukhari along with Farhatullah Babar, Sherry Rehman, Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor and Murad Ali Shah who all are either a part of the parliament or have been parliamentarians.

Bukhari also mentioned the Election Commision of Pakistan’s (ECP) notification dated July 2, 2018, regarding the Code of Conduct for Media in the general elections of 2018. “The clause b (ii) states “All media houses should follow the professional standard and strive for accuracy, balance and impartiality,” he wrote in the letter.
