ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has decided to construct five water reservoirs in the capital.
The decision was taken in the light of a consultive high-level meeting regarding water shortage in the capital last month.
Chief Metropolitan Officer (CMO) Syed Najaf Iqbal said that the MCI had decided to take steps regarding the reservoirs if the required funds are released.
An integrated water management system for the capital is also being developed.
The CMO said that as a short-term solution, the corporation is going to repair and replace damaged and old water lines so that leaks may be prevented.
Planning Commission Technical Senior Chief Naseer Gillani said that an earlier water storage project, the Chirah Dam, could not be completed because a dispute had arisen between the capital’s administration and the Punjab government.
