Leading social media website Facebook has contacted the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make an exclusive trend for the upcoming general elections.
According to reports, Facebook will also run an advertisement campaign for voters. Reportedly, Facebook will also promote the ‘8300’ service of ECP.
The Facebook management has also offered ECP to remove fake pages of the political parties.
Responding to Facebook’s offer, ECP said that it does not have any official page on the social networking website.
Sources said that ECP will call a meeting in this regard and will discuss the advertisement campaign on Facebook for General Elections 2018.
ECP officials will respond to Facebook after discussing and reviewing the matter.
Ahead of general elections, Facebook has ramped up its efforts to ensure it is doing everything it can to prevent abuse. For this purpose, it is working in collaboration with ECP to better understand and address specific challenges.
Facebook is increasing the number of people working on safety and security issues around the world to 20,000 people by the end of the year, as it has employed dedicated teams working on all of the world’s upcoming elections, including Pakistan, to help detect and prevent malicious actors or abuse on Facebook.
