NAWABSHAH: To sensitise the general public about issues arising from rapidly growing population, an awareness walk was taken out on Wednesday to commemorate World Population Day (WPD).
The walk- led by deputy director Population Welfare Riaz Ahmed Shar and attended by other officials of concerned departments, journalists, civil society representatives and a large number of citizens including women and men- started from Sheraz Chowk and culminated at press club Nawabshah.
Addressing the rally and talking to the media, Shar said that the objective of the walk was to create awareness among the masses and youths about the issues arising of increasing population including impacts on economic, education and health sectors among others.
Pakistan was a developing country and providing equal facilities to the entire population within the limited resources was a big challenge, he stated and suggested family planning for a prosperous and healthy family. He said that free advisory centres were set up in all the small and big towns of a district for guidance on Mother and Child Health and Population Welfare.
