ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senators alleged that certain sections were trying to engineer and hijack the upcoming general polls.

The senators claimed that efforts were being made to promote a specific political party.

They also criticised the caretaker government and said that it had failed to intervene in the matter regarding the arrest of candidates just before the elections.

Senator Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq said that the country was apparently moving forward towards engineered polls.

Senator Haq also said that a PML-N senator was stopped by police because he had a campaign sticker on his vehicle.

“These are indications of the kind of elections that are going to take place,” Haq added.

Senator Sherry Rehman said, “Some religious political parties have been allowed to contest elections by removing their names from the Fourth Schedule, which is a matter of concern, and we want to know why all of this is happening.”
