LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday reserved its verdict on maintainability of a petition challenging a ban on local government (LG) representatives to participate in the election campaign 2018.
The single bench comprising Justice Shams Mehmood heard the petition filed by Lahore Union Council (UC)-76 Chairman Ejaz Hafeez.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had imposed a ban on local government representatives to take part in the election campaign 2018, under Section 18 of the code of conduct.
He said that the ban was imposed in violation of the fundamental rights and Political Parties Act, which allow such activities. He pleaded with the court to set aside the ban being illegal.
The court, after hearing arguments, reserved verdict on maintainability of the petition.
