After 17 Injury ridden years at Arsenal, Jack Wilshere was told by new boss Unai Emery that he was not guaranteed a starting position this season. Deciding to run out his contract Wilshere has now joined West Ham, his boyhood club, on a free transfer.

After a decade in top-flight football, Wilshere has played just 166 times in the Premier League, scoring eight times. To put that into perspective, Leighton Baines, who moved to Goodison Park in 2007, has made 335 top-flight appearances for the Blues. At the tender age of 17 Jack Wilshere was running circles around the Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi Hernandez but since then his career has been riddled by injury after injury halting him from ever reaching his full potential.

Linked to a move to Everton earlier this year, Wilshere has opted to join the Hammers on a three-year deal. Adrian Durham from TalkSport has slammed the move, calling it “appalling”. According to Durham the move is an early sign of retirement as he believes Wilshere isn’t willing to challenge himself anymore.

Wilshere wasn’t taken to Russia for the ongoing World Cup, and at the age of 26 he still has time to make his way back into the National team. Whether or not he can achieve that at West Ham is the real question.
