ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday said that District Returning Officers (DRO) and Presiding Officers (PO) would administer the oath of impartiality to security staff to be deployed at districts and polling stations on the election day – July 25.
ECP sent a letter to the defence secretaries and interior, besides all inspector generals of police for compliance and making necessary arrangements to ensure conducting of the general elections in a smooth and transparent manner.
The commission set aside some media reports about giving magisterial powers to army personnel to be deployed at polling stations on the election day, terming them false, baseless and contrary to the ECP notification.
As per the notification, the magisterial powers have been given to the in charge officers, who would have control over three to four polling stations.
