Depression drives police official to suicide

LAHORE: A police official in the Badami Bagh area of the city committed suicide Monday.

The victim, identified as Ahmad Hussain, was only 23 years old and was deployed for duty at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines.

He is reported to have been depressed on Sunday which led him to shooting himself in the head with a pistol.

Police teams reached the scene of the incident as soon as they were informed and took the body for an autopsy to the morgue. They also collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. Investigations into the matter are currently underway.

This is not the first incident of a policeman committing suicide. Experts account for multiple reasons behind such incidents which include the challenging nature of the job, domestic issues, poverty and the harsh attitude of other officers.
