NCSW forwards list of 200 election observers to ECP

ISLAMABAD: National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) has forwarded a list of almost 200 observers across the country to monitor the forthcoming general elections to be held on July 25.

NCSW Chairperson Khawar Mumtaz told APP they have prepared a performa to monitor the participation of women in different localities and the hindrances faced by them during the election process.

She further informed that the NCSW had constituted a board including all the provincial chairpersons of the commission and its members to motivate women for taking an active part in elections.

“We have also created awareness among women through series of radio programme to come forward and understand their legal, social and moral responsibility to express their opinion through the vote,” she briefed.

“Our focus is to pinpoints problems faced by the women in exercising their legal right of casting vote with their own free will,” she said.

She added, “We would focus on the areas where women voters turn out remained less in last general or bye-elections with a special focus on the constituencies where women candidates are contesting elections on general seats.”

The commission would also establish ‘Early Warning System’ at such localities in collaboration with the ECP and would promptly respond in case of any forceful restriction for women to cast their vote, she added.
