Alif Ailan holds convention to discuss failing state of education

KARACHI: A multi-party convention organised by Alif Ailaan was held in Karachi the other day to discuss the failing state of education in District South Karachi, and analyse the five-year education plans of contesting candidates of constituencies the district.

The panel included independent candidates Ilyas Abbasi and Jibran Nasir, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Imran Ismail, Dr Arif Alvi and Khurram Sherzaman, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P), Mahfozyar Khan, Jamat-e-Islami’s (JI) Abdur Rashid and Hasan Mehnati (JI), Pak Surzameen Party’s (PSP) Fauzia Kasuri, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Dr Afnanullah, Waseem Vohra and Sheikh Javed and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Murtaza Wahab.

Analysis of the educational landscape in South Karachi revealed that availability of schools beyond primary level, quality of education, and poor school infrastructure are the three most important factors contributing to failing education standards in South Karachi.
