Steps taken to improve facilities for students, patients: NMU VC

MULTAN: Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University (NMU) Dr Ahmed Ijaz Masood has said that steps are being taken to improve the healthcare system and provide maximum facilities to students, patients, and their attendants.

While talking to APP, the VC said after assuming charge of the office on April 14, 2018, he took some urgent steps for development of the institution. He said that the NMU was given the university status on May 5, 2017, but no one cared for its accreditation with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). He said he started efforts for its accreditation with the HEC. An HEC delegation visited the NMU on April 21 and gave provisional accreditation with the HEC.

Dr Ijaz said that he also arranged funfair to provide recreational facilities for the students. Similarly, repair and renovation of squash and tennis courts were also carried out during his period in office.

A reading room in Rafida Hall, a girl hostel, was also inaugurated during his tenure.

About healthcare services, the VC said that construction of Neonatology Department was also completed in his ongoing tenure.

Boosters were also installed to counter effects of jammers, installed at the district jail, which is almost adjacent to the university.

For the provision of clean and safe drinking water, four Reverse Osmosis (ROs) plants had been repaired along with the installation of another two ROs.

About his future plans, the VC informed that different projects were underway including designing of temporary University Secretariat, Land of Warehouse planned and sent to the PMO Lahore for designing. He said that revamping and renovation of Accident & Emergency was also part of the plan.

Planning is underway for Neuro-Surgical ICU and Operation Theatres. Similarly, the administration would upgrade the library of the university. Planning for Paediatric Surgery Operation theatres is also in progress.

“We launched work on Hepatitis Clinic and it will be improved further,” he said. Free treatment to all cancer patients, both chemotherapy and radiotherapy was being done without any delay and more facilities would be given to patients in future, he added.

The start of Mammography Unit at Nishtar University is also a big achievement and it would facilitate patients from across south Punjab and some parts of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
