PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retired) Dost Muhammad Khan on Thursday decided to take matters of the ongoing power crisis in his own hands by directing officials to draw up plans to set up windmills in the province.

The areas from Banda Karak up to Parachinar were reported to be suitable for this purpose.

The caretaker CM also suggested installing hydel power generators on all small dams built by the irrigation department, suggesting that water filtration plants should also be installed on these dams to provide drinking water to the local population in those areas.

Justice (r) Dost shared his ideas while presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Peshawar on Thursday. Caretaker Minister for Power and Public Health Engineering Fazal Illahi, Caretaker Minister for Agriculture and Livestock and Caretaker Minister for Irrigation and Food Anwarul Haq were among present in the meeting.

Justice (r) Dost emphasised that thousands of megawatts (MW) of electricity could be generated if windmills were installed in the wind corridor.

Quoting the example of Canada, the caretaker CM detailed that the latest technology could be used to solve the issue of silt forever.

Moreso, he directed the K-P Oil and Gas Corporation (K-POGCL) to expedite work on exploring new oil and gas wells in the province as well as in the newly inducted districts of the erstwhile federally administered tribal area (FATA). He stated that the oil and gas organisation of erstwhile Fata would soon be merged with K-POGCL through a notification paving way for exploration of oil and gas in the area.

Furthermore, he even assured to grant additional funds for this purpose.
