ISLAMABAD: Due to limited resources and increasing threats to personal security several transgender persons have started pulling out of the electoral race for the upcoming general elections.

An independent transgender candidate from Gujranwala, Resham, quit her campaign.

During a press conference at the National Press Club (NPC) transgender candidates including Nadeem Kashish, Nayyab Ali, Maria Khan and Lubna Lal shared their worries and challenges in their attempts to enter the political arena.

They claimed that they were getting threats from rival parties and from influential people of their areas, “pressurising them to withdraw”.
