LAHORE: Some 15 workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday gathered at Lahore’s Charing Cross to protest the decision of an accountability court, which sentenced PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, to prison in the Avenfield reference case.

They raised slogans in favour of the PML-N supremo and against the National Accountancy Bureau (NAB).

The PML-N workers also criticised the anti-graft watchdog for what they said were the bureau’s “double standards”.

The protesters were then bundled into a waiting police van.

Traffic on the Mall Road as well as its adjacent routes was briefly affected owing to the demonstration.

Earlier in the day, ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar were sentenced to 10, 7 and one years in prison, respectively.

Nawaz was also slapped a £8 million fine while Maryam was fined for £2 million.
