LAHORE: Returning officer (RO) of NA-57 was summoned on Thursday by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in a hearing pertaining to former prime minister (PM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s plea against an appellate tribunal’s verdict that disqualified him.
Earlier, the LHC had cleared the former PM for contesting the upcoming polls from his home constituency, Murree’s NA-57, suspending the appellate tribunal’s verdict wherein it had disqualified the PML-N stalwart for life for not being Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (sagacious).
The appellate tribunal at the Rawalpindi bench had earlier disqualified the politician for life, barring him from contesting in the upcoming elections.
The verdict said that former PM Abbasi was “guilty of concealment of facts and withholding of the complete information from his voters”.
The RO had said that the PML-N leader had understated the value of his house in Islamabad.
