KARACHI: Several cases of negligence and maladministration have surfaced regarding the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) related to the appointment of officers for election duties, reported by a local media outlet.
ECP’s list of election officers includes the names of several officers that have already retired or are due to retire before the upcoming general elections.
School teachers including Ayesha Begum, Ali Brohi and Siraj Begum have retired but have been included in the list of officers that are due to perform election duties.
Several government employees have also been assigned election duties at several polling stations.
A returning officer (RO) was apprised by Muhammad Akram, a schoolteacher, that he had been appointed as a presiding officer at several polling stations including 83, 89 and 80 in NA-249.
Furthermore, Several ghost polling stations have also been identified.
Moreover, many government employees have submitted applications seeking exemption from election duties because they were due to perform Hajj.
