Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, who has swept the box-office, critics and audience with his portrayal of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in Sanju, in a recent interview shared his own experience of experimenting with drugs.
In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Ranbir revealed that he tried drugs during his college days but eventually gave them up.
“I have tried drugs when I was in college and got into bad influence. But I realised that nothing will happen in life if I continue with drugs. When we did that part [in Sanju], I did a lot of research,” he said.
“This film is a good learning for children and youth that five-minutes of ecstasy can destroy your entire life. It’s the worst thing possible. Sanjay was much stronger, a fighter who came out of it and became a star,” he added.
While he claimed he is clean now, he admitted he does have addictions.
“Every man makes mistakes in his life. I am addicted to nicotine now and it’s worse than drugs. I have an addiction for sweets as well,” the actor said.
Sanju, which chronicles the controversial life of Sanjay Dutt places special focus on years when he was addicted to drugs and how he kicked the habit.
In an earlier interview with Vogue Magazine, Ranbir confessed to having an alcohol problem as well.
“It [cinema] is a visual medium and I have to look after myself. I have seen it in my family, I have seen it go the wrong way; so I’m aware I have a drinking problem. When I shoot, when I work, I don’t drink. But when I’m not shooting…”
Sanju also stars Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh, Paresh Rawal and Karishma Tanna, among several others and has been a roaring success with stellar box-office figures and sold-out shows.
