Post-2005 lawyers’ degrees to be verified, orders CJP

ISLAMABAD: Post-2005 lawyers’ degrees are to be verified across the country after the Supreme Court (SC) gave an order in this regard.

The order was preceded by a suo motu case being heard by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar.

The process of verification of the degrees will be conducted at the additional registrar’s office, according to the CJP. All bar associations were directed by the SC to comply with the court order.

The hearing was adjourned until Jule 10.

Earlier in May, the CJP had questioned senior counsel Hamid Khan whether the matter of fake degrees being possessed by lawyers should be looked into.

CJP Nisar had made these remarks during the hearing of a case pertaining to airline employees possessing fake degrees.

The senior counsel had answered in the affirmative.

Justice Nisar also said, “You can direct the bar associations to furnish these details.”

A month later, the CJP took a suo motu notice regarding the issue and ordered all bar councils to submit a response within a month.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) was also directed by the SC to provide assistance in the matter.
