PESHAWAR: Fourteen women-only buses donated by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for Abbottabad and Mardan are nonoperational for the past two months, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.
A delay in the selection of their operators is the primary reason they are nonoperational with a further two months needed before they become functional. The Rs100 million worth of buses were transferred to the provincial government in March and have been parked alongside the GT Road ever since.
The TransPeshawar company opened bids for the operation and maintenance of the buses on June 29. The bidding process was extended till July 10 due to a lack of interest.
