Judiciary shouldn’t be concerned with construction of dams: Bilawal

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said that judiciary is not involved in the construction of dams anywhere in the world as it is the responsibility of the government.

“The construction of dams is the responsibility of governments,” the PPP chairman said while addressing a press conference at Zardari House in Nawabshah.

Bilawal, who is on a tour of Sindh for a third day Wednesday, said, “The party which proposed the construction of Kalabagh dam pointed out in a report that it may not be beneficial but we should have a consensus on it.” However, the PPP chairman upheld, “No judiciary in the world has ever been involved in the construction of a dam.”

The Bhutto family scion stressed that the water crisis is one biggest crisis the country is currently facing.

“PPP always raised the issue of water scarcity and struggled to resolve it,” he said adding that they have built a number of small dams across the province.

The PPP chairman while thanking his supporters for the warm welcome during his tour of the province said, “I have faith that the nation will support us.”

“I also urge the puppet alliance to have faith in the nation,” he added.

Bilawal further stressed that the nation wants a democratic government, adding that those who have failed to make their manifestos public want the elections to be delayed but there is no room for late elections.

“The nation wants a democratic government rather than a puppet state,” he said.

He further stated that his party highlighted the water crisis before anyone else addressed the issue in the country. Furthermore, he said that during PPP’s tenure, they have built numerous water dams in the province.

“Our party strengthened the banks of a 100-kilometre-long canal and set up reverse osmosis plants across the province,” said Bilawal, adding that Asia’s largest reverse osmosis plant had been set up in Nawabshah.

“No plants were set up in the other provinces,” he reminded the media persons.

He continued to add that his party’s senators had spoken about the water crisis in parliament but no one listened to them.

“We raised the water issue way before any other party,” adding that, “every political party is now talking about the water issue as part of their election campaigns,” Bilawal asserted.

Bilawal said, “PPP is the only party that has taken steps to resolve the crisis. One of these steps is the construction of small dams in Sindh,” he said.

He has since visited Hyderabad, Thatta, Tando Jam, Hatri Bypass, Mithiani, Hala, Nawabshah and Sanghar among other districts.

The young successor of Bhutto family is campaigning for the first time during the upcoming general elections 2018.

Following the completion of the campaign in Sindh, Bilawal is expected to head to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bilawal Bhutto said that Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) is puppet alliance and several such alliances are made before the election. “Some people want to derail the democratic process,” the PPP chairman lamented.

Criticising former PM, Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Said the nation does not care why someone was disqualified. Bilawal said, “We want a solution to Pakistan’s problems.”

“I am not contesting the general election to win or lose but because my mother was assassinated,” he added.
