LAHORE: The heavy rainfall, as we all know, has affected various parts of Lahore on Tuesday. Following this, the city turned into ‘Venice’, yet again. What followed next were flooded roads, houses and even emerging sinkholes.

The road in front of General Post Office located on Mall Road was damaged by the heavy rain, which resulted in two huge sinkholes emerging. Some witnessed it while they were on the roads, while others saw this on a video that surfaced on social media.

This video shows two sinkholes, the kind one would see after a massive earthquake. No casualties have been reported in this area, but in other rain-related incidents, six people have lost their lives in the provincial capital.

From the video, it can be said that the damage done on the road, maybe dangerous for the foundations of the buildings nearby. The area has been cordoned off and the traffic from this route has been diverted, causing a disruption in the traffic flow in the area.

Earlier during the day, flight operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport were also disrupted because of the heavy downpour. Four international flights scheduled to land at the airport were delayed while a flight from Dammam was diverted to Multan.

According to the Met Office, the rain is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

Following this, WASA has declared a rain emergency across the city.
