LHC to hear contempt case against ex-PM Abbasi today

RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Monday accepted the application of a petitioner who provided relevant material in contempt of court petition against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Farooq Awan, a counsel of a citizen Riaz Anjum, said that he has submitted the relevant material including media interviews and newspaper clippings in the court of LHC judge Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the derogatory remarks of the former prime minister against an Appellate Election Tribunal (AET) of the LHC Rawalpindi Bench Judge Ibadur Rehman Lodhi.

He said that the LHC judge accepted the application while making it to the part of the filed petition. On June 29, Justice Tariq Abbasi asked the petitioner to provide documentary evidences including media interview and newspaper clips on July 2 for preceding the case.

Riaz Anjum has filed a petition against the former prime minister on the last Thursday, accusing him of committing contempt of court by using derogatory language on the electronic media against an election tribunal of the Lahore High Court. The LHC bench will hear the case today (Tuesday).
