Assets details of five interim cabinet ministers revealed by ECP

ISLAMABAD: Assets details of five out of eight members of the interim federal cabinet were released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday.

Out of the five, the caretaker Information and Law Minister Barrister Ali Zafar tops the list with assets worth more than 283.8 million.

The barrister possesses a bank balance of Rs111.5 million, vehicles worth Rs19.5 million, and mortgaged assets worth Rs31 million in addition to owning a house in London and Birmingham. Zafar also owns three apartments in Dubai while his wife’s assets stand at Rs15.9 million with 150 tolas of gold.

Similarly, Interim Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar’s total assets have been shown to be worth more than Rs40 million.

Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar owns assets worth Rs40 million with a Rs27.7 million in savings certificates and investments worth 2.2 million. The former head of the State Bank of Pakistan between 2006-2009 also owns one house in Karachi and three in Islamabad.

On the other hand, caretaker Foreign Minister Abdullah Hussain Haroon owns Rs1.7 million in investments, 50 tolas of gold and 25 acres of land in Jasemabad, Sindh. In addition, Haroon has a bank balance of Rs 4.8 million, a Toyota Land Cruiser worth 9 million and a Mercedes valued at Rs2.8 million. His home in Karachi is presented as part of the inheritance.

Interim Education Minister Mohammad Yousaf Shiekh’s assets are detailed at Rs23.4 million with a bank balance of Rs5.47 million and the cumulative value of properties owned at 18.3 million. He owns four plots and a house in Karachi, a plot in Dadu and agricultural land in Larkana and Thatta.

Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan’s net assets stand at over Rs14.5 million as he owns two plots and a house in Peshawar valued at Rs6.5 million. The former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief secretary also holds partial ownership of Charsadda Sugar Mill, Premier Sugar Mill Mardan and Premier Board Mardan.

Azam Khan’s wife also owns a plot worth Rs3 million and gold worth Rs600,000. The couple also holds Rs4.3 million in the bank balance.

Asset details of Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, Mian Misbahur-Rehman and Lieutenant General (r) Khalid Naeem Lodhi are yet to be revealed by the ECP.

Moreover, the ECP Tuesday asked caretaker ministers of all the provinces to immediately declare their assets’ details.

Under the Elections Act 2017, it was mandatory for the caretaker setup to submit statements of their assets and liabilities to the ECP within three days of assuming office.

The ECP has issued reminders to all the caretaker ministers, who had not submitted their assets with the election commission f Pakistan till date, said a statement.

According to ECP, the ministers who have not submitted their assets from Punjab cabinet are Zafar Mehmood, Dr Jawad Sajid Khan, Shaukat Javed, Anjum Nisar, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Mian Nauman Kabir and Faisal Mushtaq.

In Sindh cabinet, ministers who did not file details of their assets include Dr Junaid Shah, Dr Sadia Virk and Simon John Daniel.

In KP, Abdul Rauf Khan Khattak, Sanaullah, Muqadasullah, Muhammad Rashid Khan and Justice (r) Asadullah Khan Chamkani did not submit their assets details.

Inayatullah Kasi and Khurram Shehzad from Balochistan have failed to submit their assets’ details.
