QUETTA: Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday declared Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) provincial President Ali Muhammad Jatak ineligible to contest upcoming polls, upholding the decision of returning officer (RO) and Election Tribunal.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Nazeer Langoor declared the PPP leader ineligible to contest elections.

Ali Muhammad Jatak had challenged the decision of appellate tribunal in Balochistan High Court.

In 2013, Jatak was sentenced to a two-year prison term and fined Rs10,000 in a fake degree case.

Meanwhile, Balochistan High Court allowed Mir Aali Bugti to contest elections from PB-10 Dera Bugti.

On June 26, the appellate tribunal declared presidents of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Balochistan chapter disqualified for the forthcoming election

According to details, election tribunal heard PTI provincial chief Sardar Muhammad Rind’s appeal against returning officer’s rejection of his nomination papers. After hearing the arguments, the tribunal upheld the RO’s decision of rejection of his papers.

Yar Muhammad Rind nomination papers were rejected over cases of murder in Dhadhr police station in 2017 and fake degree case. PTI provincial chief was contesting from NA-260 and PB-17. Yar Muhammad Rind decided to approach Balochistan High Court against the election tribunal decision.

Meanwhile, the nomination papers of PPP provincial president Ali Madad Jatak were also rejected and declared disqualified for the next election, however, he had decided to approach BHC.

He was the candidate from PB-31 Quetta for the upcoming election.
