ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal ordered complaint verification of alleged illegal awarding of contract of installing 450 RO plants to a company named Pak Oasis in violation of rules and regulations.

According to details, the company was paid Rs5 billion even before the completion of the project. It merits a mention here that the RO plants were to be installed to provide clean drinking water to people of Tharparkar, Chachro and Mitti, Sindh.

Media reports said that the company had failed to install 450 RO plants. Also, some installed plants had not been working properly despite maintenance services which were assured by Pak Oasis. Due to negligence and inadequate maintenance of RO plants, some of the plants were closed and people were suffering.

Taking notice of the closure and non-functioning of RO plants and not proper maintenance and alleged corruption in awarding of the contract to a blue-eyed company in violations of rules, the

NAB chairman directed the NAB Karachi DG to verify complaints why the company had been paid the whole amount in advance even before completing the project and why the relevant department of Sindh had miserably failed to ensure clean drinking water to the people of Thar and failed to complete the project. He further directed the DG to verify why the officers played the role of silent spectators on the non-functioning of RO plants.

The NAB chairman has also taken notice and sought a report on selling of clean drinking water of RO plants to the people of Thar through water bowsers illegally.
