CJP expresses resolve to recover ‘millions’ from former PTV chairman

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar expressed his resolve to recover millions of rupees paid to former Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) chairman Attaul Haq Qasmi.

The money could also be recovered from Nawaz Sharif, who was prime minister (PM) at that time, or former information minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Pervez Rashid.

The remarks were made during a case pertaining to the allegedly illegal appointment of Qasmi and millions paid to him in the form of various allowances.

The case was heard by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by CJP Nisar.

A notice to the former information minister was also issued by the apex court and explanation was sought regarding Qasmi’s appointment.

Justice Nisar observed, “Rs270 million would be allocated for the construction of a dam if Qasmi returned the money.”

Attorney General for Pakistan Jawed Khan denied to defend the former PTV chairman’s appointment.
