ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Friday disposed of plea in connection with the torture on reporters and workers by the Islamabad Police at D Chowk.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar disposed of the matter when litigants informed the bench that dispute between the parties has been settled and compromised. The litigants also pleaded before the bench that now parties were not interested in litigation and requested to dispose of the case.
The CJ accepting the stance of the parties disposed of the matter. A leader of journalist community Shakeel Qarar, Advocate General of Islamabad Tariq Jahangiri and other police officials appeared before the court.
On May 4, journalists and media workers marching towards the Parliament House to express solidarity with their colleagues killed in the line of duty in the recent Kabul bombings to mark World Press Freedom Day and demanded an end to impunity for violence against journalists but were stopped by the police leading to a confrontation.
