SC moved for appointment of permanent PTV MD

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has been moved for the appointment of a permanent managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV) instead of giving additional or interim charge, and for conducting the audit of the illegal recruitments and promotion made in PTV during the last five years.

One Javeria Iqbal filed an application with the Human Rights cell of SC in which she pleaded that she, being a female employee of the corporation, was facing multiple problems during the discharge of her duty in PTV.

She said that her programme ‘Aap Ko Pata Hai’ was stopped without any reason, besides stopping their allowances. She lamented that when she approached PTV’s Additional MD Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera and informed him about the closure of her TV programme, he threatened her and told her to take the Apex issue with the apex court.

The applicant further revealed that the affairs of the PTV have been running on an ad-hoc basis for the last 27 months.

She said that a total of 55 candidates applied for PTV MD’s post on December 23, 2017, but the selection process hadn’t been completed hitherto.

She alleged that Zahoor Ahmed Barlas and his frontman Farhat Abbas violated the set rules and regulations. She pleaded the chief justice of Pakistan that PTV administration should be stopped from creating any further problems for the applicants and she should not be sent to any other department.

She pleaded that the apex court should direct the PTV administration to restart her TV programme, besides demanding the appointment of a permanent MD.

Javeria further asked for an audit of recruitments and promotions in the PTV made during the last five years, from July 2013 to June 2018. She said that the FIA should be assigned the task of investigation.
