KARACHI: The water supply to many areas of Karachi was suspended on Thursday due to the repairing of the pipeline at Dhabeji Pumping Station.
According to the executive engineer at Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, the 72-inch diameter pipeline burst due to power breakdown, suspending water supply to many areas in the city.
The pipeline burst due to back pressure after power breakdown.
Meanwhile, Karachi is facing acute shortage of water because of a drastic drop in water levels at the Hub Dam.
The people of Karachi have complained of a severe water crisis, with officials refusing to facilitate them.
Keenjhar Lake and Hub Dam are two main water sources for the metropolis, from where the water is pumped through three main bulk pumping stations located in Hub, Gharo, and Dhabeji.
According to former provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro, around 100MGD from the Hub and 550MGD are supplied from the Indus in normal circumstances to meet the needs of Karachi’s 17 million citizens.
