ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (EPA) was ordered by the Supreme Court (SC) to seal all steel fabrication and furnace units in Islamabad that did not follow environmental regulations.
The three-member bench, which was headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, ordered EPA Director General (DG) Farzana Altaf Shah to seal all steel units in Secots I-9 and I-10 that did not conform to EPA’s environmental rules.
The petition had been filed by Nazir Ahmed and other residents of the two sectors in 2007.
Following the directives issued by the SC bench, the Islamabad advocate general (AG) was ordered to provide force, including police personnel, to the EPA so that the directives could be complied with.
